Ronney McCormick (64) I got my first car, a 1952 4Dr Maroon Ford with a pinstiped dash in 1962 I think. Dashes were metal then. I don't think pinstripping would stick to well to our plastic dashes of today. Anyway I purchased it from Kenneth Savage out West of Roby for a whopping $225.00. Of course Kenneth had it customized pretty well including loud pipes. Well now here is the story about Walter. I had a great time racking off those mufflers up and down through town. If some of you remember Dad had a 1956 yellow and green Chevy that also had loud mufflers. Anyway, I'm headed west through town rattling the windows and guess who comes from nowhere. Walter! He pulls me over and proceeds to tell me how much noise I was making. I probably agreed. He said "I'm going to give you a ticket", but also, I want you to tell your Dad "half of this ticket is his". I felt some sense of relief that he was in trouble as much as I was. Well when I got home I commenced to tell Dad the story of what happened and what Walter had told me to tell him. Well I think it would have been better on me had I not even mentioned that half the ticket was his. He was so mad, he telephoned Walter and I could hear Dad speaking in a very loud voice to him. I never really wanted to know exactly what was said, I just know Dad made me go to Alfred Carys and buy stock mufflers that day and replace them. However, a couple of weeks later I slipped around and put the loud ones back on. I sure don't envy Walter having to put up with us in those days. I sure he never had a boring day in Roby. |
