Sharron Kiker pointed me to this website and I have had a blast reading everyone's comments. I went to RHS for 1 semester in 1964 (class of '65). My sister, Donna, and I moved to Roby in June 1964 and moved back to Plainview in January 1965. My two e-mail addresses are linda.bowman@hp.com (work) and lbowman@cox-internet.com (home).

WE WALKED UP THE STEPS AND DOWN THE ISLE ON GRADUATION DAY FOURTY YEARS HAVE COME AND GONE AND THINGS HAVE CHANGED SO MUCH THO FAR APART IN TIME AND MILES WE FEEL AGAIN IN TOUCH WE STOP AND LOOK DOWN THE ROAD AND FEEL THE PAIN WE SHARE THE MEMORIES AND LOVE FOR JO WILL ALWAYS LINGER THERE TIME WILL PASS AND ONE BY ONE WE ALL WILL MEET OUR END BUT NOW WE SHARE WITH HEAVY HEARTS THE PASSING OF A FRIEND

Joann Gatewood Terry, class of 65, lost her battle for life Monday night. Her services are at the Roby Church of Christ on Thursday at 10:00 AM. We have all lost someone very special and Lee and I will cherish all of the times thruout our lives that we spent with her. Her mom and dad have always been so nice to us and of course Mike is classmate ... friend ... hunting buddy and my heart goes out to the family. It is an unusual life that is spent in such steady devotion to those she loved.

Dear Classmates;
At last report today (Sunday 2/19/06) 9 p.m. Jo had started running a temperature of 103 and seems to be going down daily, we are in contact with Leonard as to her condition as they are at the hospital 12 or 13 hours a day. I will keep you informed daily or more often as conditons dictate.

I TRIED TO CLICK AND WRITE A MESSAGE BUT COULDN'T GET IT TO WORK ... SO THOUGHT I WOULD WRITE YOU AND YOU CAN PUT IT ON THERE...
Joann Gatewood Terry has been put in Hendricks Hospice and has not spoken since Tuesday night. The family needs your prayers as they make it day by day with this journey. Their middle son, Jason also suffered a heart attack on Wednesday, he is in Harris in Ft. Worth. awaiting results from tests they have run on him.
Note from Becca Frierson date Thursday Feb 16th...I also got a message from Larry Field that Joann was in Hendrick in Abilene "Hospice"
Yogi, Pam and I were looking at the 1949 grads and noticed Joretta (Moore) Browning was a 49'er. Are you aware she passed away in the last week or two. She had been battling cancer for several years. She was a sweet lady. We enjoyed being around her while she lived in Andrews.

Something I got from David Webb a long time ago........My guess is, you will recognize the fellows in this old photo I ran across in a memory box. This must have been around 1960. I moved away shortly after that. Would have been class of '64. Maybe you could put it in the "The Way We Were" photos. ---- Fond memories, for sure!!

Thanks for the site -- I like to visit now and then. --- I will keep on the lookout for an more worthy photos I may have.

Hi, Yogi, Hope you and Lee are well and had a good holiday. We miss your notes!!!

I just submitted one about a party for Calvin's mother, but it's not showing up. Did I do something wrong?

This is what I wrote, in case you didn't get it. If you could put it in for me I would really appreciate it!

Erna Lee Jones will be 80 in February, and her children are having a birthday party for her on Saturday, February 4th from 1 - 5 p.m. at Lamar Street Baptist Church in Sweetwater. Erna Lee was very active in school, scouts and church activities while all six of her kids attended Roby school. We'd love for you to come and wish her a happy birthday and visit with Calvin, Randel, Vonda, LaRue and Carlos. If you can't come but would like to send her a card her address is 3309 Sherry Lane, Apt. 238, Abilene, TX 79603. Hope to see you February 4th!.

Thank you, Yogi! Hope 2006 will be a blessed year for you and Lee and your family.

Ginger

I have switched from NetNation.com (who has hosted RobyTexas.com for over 4 years) to a company called Network11.com. The old company could not or would not fix the problems on our message board. Today is Dec 29th and hopefully the change will be made today or tomorrow. I hope there are no further disruptions with the service. I will test and repair the board and then notify you that you may resume your communications with each other.

I continue to look for one, two or more to help with the management and content of the site. If you are interested contact me and we can discuss it by email or phone. This is a investment of time ...not money. The site is not an everyday site for most who use it, but is important that it be here when we need to remember who we are. GO ROBY LIONS ... GO ROBY ALUMNI.

There is a problem with the new server and I am making arrangements to either have it fixed or move the site to another host. Mail me any comments you would like to see on this page and I will post them for you. I will post the "all clear" as soon as I can.

I just want to thank Betty Joy and Larry for their wonderful hospitality and graciousness. I haven't been back to Roby in a lot of years, but had to make the 40th. My daughters came with me and I have to say, enjoyed it as much as I did. The turnout for '65 was wonderful and unexpected. I did miss seeing a few of the old crowd. The one that had changed the most, to me, was Charlie Jo. The one that has changed the least, is Tony. We all had sush a good time and enjoyed the party so much, I hated to leave for home. Again, I want to give the credit for the party success to BJ and Larry. Thank you!! Cynthia

Just in from Homecoming thanks to Sharron (Kiker) Davis (65)....
Hey Everybody!! Tony & I really missed ya'll at Roby Homecoming. Tony was almost the Lone Ranger! Just he, Gary West, and Janice Brashear from the Class of 64....BUT, the Class of 65 shined...Mike & Jo Ann were crowned Homecoming Queen & King...We had the most attending the "business meeting" with a grand total of 10, and at our "get-together" at the courthouse there were 18 classmates plus Cynthia's oldest daughter and Linda Green and Tommy Driver's wife, Ann Moore, Ben Simmons, and George Simmons wife. We had a great time with lots of laughter and quite a few tears, too. It was a really special visit. Doris, Cyn, Bambi, Jan Ashley, Margie, JoAnn, Joyce Brashear, Larry Field, Curtis Doyle, Tommy Driver, Joe Kelly, Mike T., Charlie Joel, Leonard Mitchell, George Simmons, Donald, Andy Moore, and myself. We shared some precious memories and updates on our lives. It was really fascinating listening to each one capsulate his /her last 40 yrs. into a short narration, allowing the rest of us a glimpse into the adult lives of our former classmates. Almost everyone mentioned where his/her parents are, if lucky enough to still have them. Margie made a very sweet observation about how that very thing is a testament to the bond we share. As she said, "All our parents belonged to all of us." We were all a little surprised, I think, that we really weren't really ready to leave even after about 3 hrs. of visiting. Tony and I continued the visit on into the night at Betty Joy's Neon Room with Bambi & Volley Dean, Andy and Ann Moore, Curtis Doyle, Donald and Joyce, Doris, Jan, Charlie Joel & Candy, Cynthia & daughter Lisa. And of course, Betty Joy and husband Larry, Gil & Gaynell Cherry were there and J Neal even dropped in later. You all missed the highlight of the evening when the guys karoaked YMCA. We would have loved to have had all of you there, and we're all so grateful to Joyce & Donald for spending so many hrs. and dollars to bring us together. It was a success!!!

The Ex's Association has lost money the last few Homecomings because of the social on Saturday night. $800 was lost the last couple of homecomings and around $1,500 the last time it was held at the country club. There is not enough interested people for a large event on Saturday night. Other people have started planning their own parties on Saturday, therefore we felt a social after the football game on Friday night would be a nice change and allow those interesed classes wanting to plan their own parties on Saturday that opportunity. Everyone is invited to come to the old gym Friday night after the football game to celebrate our win against Bronte and dance the night away. Also bring your music, pictures, yearbook and enjoy reminiscing with friends and classmates. We hope to see you there. If anyone has not received a letter regarding homecoming it is probably because we do not have a current address for you. You can email any addresses to Darry Thomson at tthomson@roby.esc14.net.

Found this site through a friend and it is absolutely wonderful. I went to school in Roby for my 6th grade in 1962. I have two brothers, Joe Kelley who lives in Snyder and works at the prison. Jim Kelley who lives in Sweetwater and is the Chief of Police there. I work at one of the women's prisons in Gatesville (at least we are all on the right side of the law). I have many fond memories of Roby (we ended up moving and graduating from Rotan High School - me and Jim in 1968 and Joe in 1965) and am still in contact with a very few from Roby. Would love to hear from more as Roby (and Rotan, of course) are both great places and you just can't beat small towns and the love and help you get from them when you need these things the most. On the first row, second from the left, Betty Joy and Ginger Melton? Really am enjoying reading the old archives and catching up on everybody. Jonasue

Then a follow up letter from "Roby"..........
Thanks, I appreciate that. The furthest I can trace my lineage is to the Roby's of New York City in the mid-to-late 1800's. I really hope that something turns up. Please don't be mad because they are from New York. I read some of the jokes on your site (the practical-joking Penguin is my favorite) and I noticed that there was a marked dissaffection towards "Yankees". I am from California, if that's any better. My mother and her father (both are Robys) were born and raised in Louisiana. I look forward to any information you can gather. Sincerely, Roby.

I asked permission to post the letter that "Roby" sent me. See if anyone will help him out............
Hi, In my never-ending narcissistic pursuits, I typed my name into Google and found a city with the same name. This is amazing to me. I saw Roby High School, a water tower with Roby on it and such. Doubtless, your fine city has been around longer than I have. But the name Roby has been in my family for hundreds of years. Perhaps you can give me some of the history of your city. Maybe it was founded by someone in my family? That would be awesome! Thank You, Roby.

For the message board: The State Fair in Dallas with the Roby clan sounds like fun. Are you going this year? Perhaps Jan and I will can join you. Yogi, thanks for the website and the memories. Dianne Feagan, please e-mail me. I loved seeing you a few year back! ---------- Yogi, his part of the message is for you. Reading the message board brought back wonderful memories of Cricket and your Mom. Although it was tough times, I truly enjoyed the nights at your house playing 42 with Mary, Cricket, you and your friend (Tom?). And playing with sweet little Mary Jo. Hard to believe that she isn't still a baby! I loved your mother so. Such a sweet lady! And Cricket was a great friend. Periodically I think of her and still feel the lose. I was lucky enough to see Cricket when she was in Baylor for heart surgery. I moved away from Dallas soon after. I talked to her a couple more times, but did not get to see her again. My life is better because I knew all of you. You taught me much about courage and stength. Thanks! Nancye

We worked together for a number of years there before I moved on to Northwest Airlines. You can probably call 1 800 774-2000 and find someone who can tell you if he is still there. Last week I attended a State and Federal committee meeting organized by our local Chamber of Commerce. We invited a representative from Governor Perry's office, a representative from Rep. Connaway's office and a past employee of Congressman Stenholm's office, who is still very active in State and Federal government. Folks, Roby may be small, but the effects of Roby and it's people reach far and wide. The representative from the Governor's office was Kevin Christian, a 1996 graduate of RHS and the representative from Stenholm's office was James Beauchamp, son of Joe Beauchamp, class of 69, and nephew of Rex and Abel Beauchamp. I was so proud of Roby's representation at this meeting. Pretty impressive for a little West Texas town!

My brother Mark sent me your website tonight and I had so much fun reading it. You're really doing a good job of keeping that little town together. Thanks. My two brothers, my mother and I moved to San Angelo from Roby in 1972. Two of us live in San Angelo today, one in Dallas, and my mother in Sylvester. We still go to Sylvester about every month or two to see my mother. My older brother farms at Sylvester, my mother owns a big house in the NW corner of Sylvester, and I just bought a small lot and "beat up" house at Sylvester. We enjoy it there and still love to go back "home" and hang out. Good job on your website and I'll come back and visit frequently. Tymn Comest, San Angelo TX. Class of 1975

I drove through town in Oct. and recognized almost nothing. This says as much about my memory as it does about change in Roby. My current email is coprolite19147@yahoo.com Roby is still a great little town and the place that was most influential in my life.

Hey there!! I stopped by the Centennial and bought those cute peanut patties. The history is behind the makings of these is interesting and seems to go with the town. What a cute idea and how retro. Keep selling them. They are soooo good and goes well with this town. Thanks, Pamela
